Head of Brand Communications - Hang Seng Bank (HK)

The Brand Communications function plans and implements strategic initiatives supporting the Bank's brand values and employer value propositions. Working very closely with functional and business heads, the team proactively plans and executes communication initiatives to promote the Bank's brand values, employee engagement and to manage the Bank's reputation. The team also builds thought leadership and establish amicable relationship with various external stakeholders, leverage multiple channels including but not limited to traditional media, social media, external speaking opportunities and other events.
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications and Community Investments, the Head of Brand Communications is responsible for driving integrated communication strategies that promote the Bank's brand values and enhance brand awareness across all channels. This role will focus on creating compelling content, managing media relationships, developing targeted campaigns, and ensuring consistency across all communication platforms.
Principal Responsibilities:
Integrated Communications to Promote Brand Values:
- Responsible for overall planning of entity-level communications strategy to build brand value of the Bank.
- Steer the development of creative and integrated communications campaigns that strategically and effectively promote the Bank's brand values, enhance staff's sense of belonging, and engage and inspire the Bank's key external stakeholders.
- Drive the Bank's brand stories through engaging content for various external and internal channels, including media, YouTube, LinkedIn, intranet, staff apps and events etc.
- Be a gatekeeper of all brand-related external communications exercises.
Strategic and Effective Content Creation:
- Oversee key message planning and the development of creative and compelling stories to promote the Bank's brand values and stories across various platforms, including traditional and social media for both internal and external audience.
- Act as a main editorial gatekeeper for related corporate publications, ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice across all channels.
- Thorough understanding on various social and digital media channels and their reach for effective deployment strategy.
Employee Engagement and Communications:
- Strategically plan and leverage al internal communication channels, ensuring key messages and stories will connect, inspire and engage employees, aligning them with the Bank's purpose, values, strategies, and leadership vision.
- Act as an internal advisor for effective storytelling and two-way communication, promoting the Bank as an employee of choice.
Executive Profiling:
- Drive effective leadership communications through engaging content including CE LinkedIn, CE Townhall etc.
- Drive executive profiling and build thought leadership for the Bank's senior executives - featuring the Bank's strategic values.
Media Relations:
- Cultivate strong relationships with media, especially features, community and lifestyle sections.
- Proactively generate positive media coverage through events, press releases, and targeted outreach.
Reputational and Issues Management:
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential reputational risks in collaboration with all functions with regards to employer branding, community investments, social issues, marketing etc.
Events and Campaign Management:
- In charge of entity-level event strategies aligned with the Bank's overall goals and objectives to promote the brand values.
- Manage all aspects of event planning, development and execution, including but not limited to ideation, budget management, vendor selection, logistics, and on-site coordination.
Team Management:
- Be an effective team leader by showcasing excellent communications and people skills; promote a culture of team work, trust and mutual support; delegating effectively and empower team members to take ownership; developing and mentoring team members to achieve their full potential; be open to seek feedback.
Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of experience in corporate communications with a sizeable organisation, with a focus on public relations, marketing, and/or events management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to develop engaging content for various audiences.
- Excellent and proven track record in planning and executing events of various sizes and for different stakeholders.
- An innovative communicator. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese, with a proven ability to develop compelling an impactful content.
- Skilled in storytelling and be able to craft engaging narratives, visualize messages, and connect with audience emotions.
- Proficient in content creation and storytelling on social media platforms, including YouTube and LinkedIn.
- Good design and art sense.
- Excellent strategic messaging skills, encompassing developing impactful key messages, aligning communication initiatives with business goals, and ensuring consistent messaging across channels.
- Strong media relations especially with features and lifestyle media in Hong Kong and preferably the Greater Bay Area.
- Understanding of the banking industry and its regulatory landscape preferred.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of integrated communications and social media principles.
