We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Operational Management Manager, Performance Services, HK COO Office.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) has overall responsibility in driving execution and effective collaboration across the bank to achieve operational excellence, efficiency and resilience.

Performance Services (CAO office) provides the Hong Kong COO with dedicated, strategic and forward-thinking operational management support, both proactively and on an ad-hoc basis. Performance Services also lead and coordinate all teams in COO office in driving staff engagement, operational support, budget planning and cost management, management information and business administration. 

The Operational Management Manager will lead our people strategies and promote cultural change within the HK COO function, curate departmental engagement events and development activities, handle communications and governance as well as other administrative tasks.

Role Purpose

  • Lead and coordinate initiatives that align with the People Strategy, aimed at cultivating a positive workplace environment, fostering staff development, and promoting a high-performance culture
  • Create and manage comprehensive communication plans for both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that teams understand the function’s purpose, strategy, deliverables, and overall value
  • Oversee the delivery of effective reporting and governance frameworks that assist management in achieving strategic objectives
  • Develop and coordinate insightful management information and reporting to equip the COO and senior management with the necessary insights to steer the bank’s strategies and initiatives effectively
  • Support business management initiatives that align with the objectives and strategies of the HK COO
  • Manage and coordinate the Graduate and Student Work Placement Intern Program, providing oversight and support throughout

Key Responsibilities

Governance and Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of reports, ensuring that the content is appropriately tailored for various audiences, including the HBAP COO ExCo, AMH ExCo, and AMH COO Committees, while upholding ambitious standards of executive reporting

People and Engagement

  • Support the formulation and execution of events (under the HK COO remit) to foster and drive engagement within the wider HK COO community
  • Provide pointed support to drive the People and HR agenda / matters as required
  • MI coordination and analysis & HK COO Blueprint governance
  • Execution support well-being initiatives, snapshoot survey, COO Scorecard

Business & Administrative Management

  • Manage the Graduate Trainee / Intern and other similar programmes
  • Contractor management (h/c management, hiring, time sheets etc.)
  • Oversee support of BIA review for CAO HK
  • Lead and manage the business management tasks/initiatives within the Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer (COO) function
  • Manage bank-wide internal third-party service management
  • Coordination of function wide activities

Communications

  • Aid in the execution of the Communication Strategy, including Town Halls, Leadership Exchanges, Fireside Chats, the COO Star Programme, and the ASP Great Award, along with the overall HK COO (Bank-wide) communications plan
  • Regularly update and manage content on the HK COO Office page on HSBC Workplace

  • Continuously delivering at the highest quality, succinct output suitable for executive and senior management and external parties (always including regulators), regardless of pressures
  • Proactively identify issues and facilitate structured discussions with key stakeholders
  • Engendering a true sense of urgency, pace, community, and collaboration across indirectly managed areas across the COO community
  • University degree in business administration, finance or operation management related field or associated relevant business experience
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability, effectively managing and prioritizing multiple competing demands within a challenging environment
  • Possesses a strong background in working within a matrix organizational structure, with the ability to influence individuals across various levels
  • Proven history in delivering change initiatives
  • A lateral thinker adept at interpreting and resolving complex challenges
  • Exceptional communication and people skills, with experience engaging with executives at all levels
  • Great growth mindset and resilience to embrace change, overcome challenges and create space for curiosity creativity and connectivity
