MSS Operations Strategy and Change is a dedicated team of 'change experts' that help plan, design, and deliver the implementation of change initiatives for MSS Operations. Combining our change expertise with operations knowledge and network, we work hand in hand with the business and delivery partners globally to lead, manage and deliver the digital transformation goals. We are a trusted partner to MSS Operations in leading the digital transformation initiatives across multiple functional product and asset classes, delivering key strategic, regulatory and optimization outcomes.

The Opportunity:

  • MSS Operations is executing against the 2025 strategy, known as Project Rubix. Within Rubix, the Workflow Orchestration Programme is a flagship initiative to enable and deliver on the MSS Operations transformation agenda
  • We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Product Owner to join the team to lead and manage the delivery of key workstreams and the prioritised backlog
  • The primary responsibility is to contribute to the Workflow and Orchestration roadmap and delivery across MSS Operations, supporting the growth and expansion of the platform through a multi-year delivery roadmap

Principal Accountabilities:

Strategy & Roadmap Alignment:

  • Establish alignment and feasibility with the product vision/strategy defined by the Chief Product Owner
  • Contribute to refining the product roadmap based on customer feedback and business needs

Sprint Planning & Delivery Assurance:

  • Work closely with Agile PODs to inspect and assure the work being delivered and evaluate progress every Sprint
  • Participate actively in sprint ceremonies including planning, reviews and retrospectives
  • Communicate and make the priorities transparent for the workstream
  • Clearly define sprint goals and guide the POD in delivering value within the agreed timeframe, in line with the vision and the roadmap

Backlog Management:

  • Maintain the new product features list, taking requests from operations area product owners and reviewing through the prioritisation forum to agree the backlog for the development
  • Ownership of the product backlog(s) and prioritisation to ensure they are a) fit for purpose and achieving the vision, b) being used and c) correlate with the strategic direction of the product
  • Ensure the backlog is visible, clear and transparent to all relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure the backlog is ready for sprint planning, including user stories, acceptance criteria and dependencies

Data Governance & Delivering Value through Data

  • Implement and maintain robust data governance practices, including data lineage, data stacks, data models – that support and enable data driven decision making, powered through analytics, AI and ML capabilities

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as a primary point of contact for internal customers/stakeholders to gather requirements, address queries and manage expectations
  • Collaborate with business owners, operations champions and delivery teams to define and refine product requirements
  • Facilitate alignment between the stakeholders and delivery teams, ensuring a common and shared understanding of goals and deliverables
  • Create a working environment to share best practices

Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor product performance and gather feedback from users to enrich the product backlog with enhancements and features
  • Identify opportunities to enhance team processes and remove impediments to delivery

Vendor Partnership alignment:

  • Partner with Service Now to understand their road map, schedule the adoption of new feature and lobby for new features from their core product where identified

Management of Risk and Internal Controls:

  • Strong awareness of the factors which might lead to financial loss and those mitigating controls to prevent such losses
  • Strong awareness of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations
  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
  • Understands, follows, and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy

Leadership and Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Operations, Change and Technology
  • Lead by example and ensure staff are supported to deliver outstanding results
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage work independently without any supervision

    • Workflow & Orchestration Product Owners

    • Functional, Programme and project leads
    • Technology Delivery and Resource Practice Leads

Success Criteria:

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience as a product owner, senior business or data analyst or similar role in an agile environment
  • Strong understanding of data models & data analytics, data integration and database design concepts
  • Experience of working on ServiceNow workflow solutions and awareness of ServiceNow workflow features is desirable
  • Good knowledge of Markets & Securities Services Operations and/or Financial Services operations
  • Experience of being involved in and managed successful delivery of large and complex operational change from initiation to deployment
  • Customer centric mindset with focus on delivering high impact solutions
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) and best practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills to bridge technical and non-technical teams, to facilitate discussions and negotiations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear stakeholder engagement
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and ability to connect data capabilities with business goals
  • Ability to lead without authority, influencing cross functional teams to delivery business value
  • Strong experience with requirements management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, MS Visio)
  • Experience in leveraging available and emerging best in class technologies to benefit the wider change agenda and tenacity to find solutions to complex problems

Managing Challenges:

  • Deliver an ambitious Programme of work in fixed timeframe, but with fast-pace and dynamic environment
  • Manage multiple internal and external dependencies with competing priorities and deadlines which may impact overall delivery
  • Manage complex stakeholders across multi-region teams and products
  • Negotiate and influence conflicting decisions and outcomes
